The
hitherto forbidden motor road form Manali to
Leh has now been opened. Traversing across
incredible Himalayan terrain the 485 km road
takes one through high mountain passes,
three of them over 16500f't and into Leh
situated at 11,955'ft. On the way up and
from the top of these passes you gaze out at
wave after mountain ranges that are backed
by a deep blue sky. As you take in this
strange, desolate and often melancholy
landscape, the savage beauty of the high
plateaus are seen in hues of red ,Yellow ,
ochre and rust. Rocks and sand sculpted into
wierd shapes appear like illusion as you
traverse the roof of the world.
